How To Save Energy

In every home there are many simple and easy ways to save energy. Saving energy can help reduce your household costs and help you make a difference to the environment.

1. General house tips

General
  • Check for and repair any holes in your ceiling, floor, windows, walls, roof, pipes and plumbing. These can release cool or warm air which increases your energy usage especially when you are trying to keep your house cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
  • Block off the chimney when not in use as this will allow hot air to enter the house during summer
  • Repair dripping faucets.
  • Turn off appliances at the power points when not in use. E.g. TV, toaster.
  • Install a Pre-Paid Electricity meter. You can control how much you spend.

2. Heating and cooling
